Feature removal - project ready state

March 15th, 2010

If you weren’t paying close attention you might have missed a subtle change with Cashboard projects this afternoon.

The project “ready” state has been removed from Cashboard. This status was highly confusing to new customers and useless to existing ones. Since it wasn’t serving anyone we’ve removed it completely.

Cashboard project list

What was it?

The project ready state had to do with estimates and their approval checkbox. Three years ago when Cashboard launched estimates were tied directly to projects. Back then if you created an estimate a project was also created.

If you had selected that your estimate “required approval” the matching project would not be “ready”. This “ready” state prevented you from logging time on a project until your client had approved it from their interface.

We’ve long since decoupled projects and estimates, so this change was overdue.

Sometimes it’s not what you put in, but what you leave out that makes a product great.
