Flexible clients update
November 9th, 2008Cashboard launched originally as a business to business tool.
I designed the application for myself, and people like myself. During my life as a freelance web developer I routinely contracted for companies that needed work. I rarely did work for just a single person.
During the year and a half we’ve been in service I came to realize not everyone works the same way. We’ve gone a long way to improve many things inside Cashboard to maximize flexibility while keeping the system simple to use, but one thing has gone largely ignored.
Today I’m proud to announce the launch of Cashboard as a service that functions in a business to business or business to consumer environment equally as well.
Assign resources to a person or a company
Cashboard now allows you to assign projects, estimates, invoices, and payments to a single person or a company.

We’ve also improved the client selection interface, making it easier to see what you’re selecting. As before, you can still create companies and people on the fly as you’re creating a project (or any other resource).
Assign people to multiple companies
You may also now assign one person to multiple client companies. This is great for those of you who work for one person that owns multiple ventures.
We’ve also redesigned the Clients and Employees screen, which improves the usability over the older screen by leaps and bounds. Easily see all of your companies and people at a glance. No more endless scrolling as with the previous design.

When your clients login they can plainly see their account balance for themselves and any companies they belong to.

Liquid updates
As you’ve come to expect, these changes don’t come without template changes as well. All of your previous templates have referenced things like “invoice.company” or “estimate.company”. These items have gone away in favor of the client collection.
We’ve automatically updated all of your stored templates – so all of your existing stuff will work. However, some of the bigger template hackers out there will probably want to brush up on the Cashboard liquid template reference page.

Nice work
People in multiple companies is something I’ve been waiting for.
It’s great to see this level of development commitment.
cheers,
